Flora, bugs and birds have been lively this week despite the fact that the tip of the week used to be so humid that it felt just like the tropics. Right here’s a path of footage from Duck Hole, Aspinwall Riverfront Park, Schenley Park and my very own group.
Don’t disregard to take a look at the 2 footage on the finish: A thriller match-the-leaves moth or butterfly and a few superb hen habits.

With false sunflowers (Heliopsis helianthoides) at their top in Schenley Park, the purple aphids are out in complete drive.

Wineberry is already forming end result.

I discovered a moth or butterfly that I may just no longer establish at Duck Hole. It used to be not possible to get shut for a photograph so that is the most productive I may just do. Perched on Eastern knotweed. Are you able to inform me what it’s?

And right here’s some hen habits I’ve by no means observed sooner than: Two red-tailed hawks are perched at the hoist rope of this monumental crane on O’Hara Side road close to Thackeray on 29 June. This crane spends 5 days every week shifting backward and forward. I’m amazed that they made up our minds to check it on a Saturday. Are you able to see them? If no longer, click on right here for a marked-up photograph.

p.s. The dewpoint used to be 70°F the day before today. This hyperlink explains why that feels so sizzling.
p.p.s. See Karen’s remark under by which she identifies it as a Dangerous-wing moth (Dyspteris abortivaria). So my subsequent query is, Why is it referred to as a unhealthy wing?
