Do you could have those ordinary having a look insects for your home windows? For your porch furnishings? For your automobile? I had now not noticed yellow poplar weevils (Odontopus calceatus) for a number of years when John English posted a photograph of 1 on Fb the day past. There have been none over right here in Oakland and I may just truthfully say, “See no weevil.”

Hah! Six hours later my home windows hosted 24 of them. Welcome to weevil mating season.

Yellow poplar weevils are risk free to people. Up shut — very shut — they’re more or less lovely.

Some other folks suppose they’re ticks. How are you able to be sure that they aren’t? Weevils have 3 issues that ticks don’t have: 6 legs, a protracted snout, and wings. Ticks can’t fly.
