Dan Tallman’s Chook Weblog: Western Bluebird

On 18 February 2022, Erika and I looked for Western Bluebirds at two prairie preserves south of Olympia. The species is a fan of the woodland/prairie interface. We struck out on the Scatter Creek Game space, however had been thrilled to seek out no less than ten at Mima Mounds State Park.

The bluebirds perched on low trees. The birds flew all the way down to the bottom, it seems that feeding on bugs or fruit. Western Bluebirds are identified by way of their brown backs and blue throats. Simply to be complicated, some men have blue backs. The women are grey birds that modify within the brightness in their chestnut breasts, and display various sun shades of grey or blue on their heads and again.
